Senior Care and Aging
Take steps now to maintain your senior pet's health and happiness, and keep them in the best shape they can be. This will help to slow the aging process, allowing them to continue enjoying life and the activities they love for as long as possible. Provide good nutrition and moderate exercise as they age, keep off those extra pounds, provide mental stimulation and manage any diseases that do develop early on to maintain optimal health.
Supply your senior pet with environmental enrichment games, puzzles and toys, or try nose-work training to help maintain cognitive well-being and strengthen and maintain your human-animal bond! Look for activities to enjoy together that are fun and age appropriate for your pet. Multiple shorter walks might be better than one long walk. A trip to the pet store on safe terrain when it's slippery outside might be more relaxing. Don't forget to shovel out and maintain a space in the snow for your pet to easily eliminate outdoors in the winter. Step treads and good lighting for the stairs will make your pet feel much more secure.
